Bringing Back The Books

Please Follow Me On Bloglovin'

Hi Everyone,

Long time no book talk (at least over here on the blog, I'm upon the book talk on my YouTube Channel) so I thought I'd pop on here with two books I've read this month, one that I really liked and one that... well... not so much.

Review

If you're a fan of The Gilmore Girls (and who isn't?), you'll know Lauren Graham by her alter ego 'Lorelai Gilmore', the fast talking, quirky, outspoken and jazzily dressed mother of Rory Gilmore. I have been a fan of the Gilmore Girls since it came out waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy back when I was a kid and, although I wasn't too blown away by the recent Netflix revival, I still watched it with all the love of a Gilmore wannabe and so when I read the tagline for this book 'From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls' I was sold, the order was placed and like the little stalker I am, I waited.

Annnnnddddddddd, it was a bit of a let down if I'm honest.

It just didn't go anywhere, it read a little like the ramblings of a madwoman. I imagine if the actual Lorelai Gilmore tried to write a book, this would be it. The whole thing felt messy, unfinished and had very little in the way of Gilmore Girls behind the scenes, which, let's be honest, is the whole
reason I bought it in the first place.

I'd really only recommend this book if you fricking love Gilmore Girls and don't mind only about two pages worth of any gossip, and even then, the gossip is like a coffee from Pret a Manger - weak.

Review

This on the other hand, this is a book worth reading. The picture may look like it hasn't been jazzed up but from the nature of the story I felt that adding blog props would be an insult, the book is about two women who have both lived in a little house in london that is infamous for it's bizarre minimalist nature and 200+ rules that must be followed in order to live there (see why blog props wouldn't be appropriate with the minimalism in this book?).
As is suggested by the title, one of our females is on the current timeline and the other one is 'The Girl Before'.
We are lead through a suffocating and tense journey inside a house that seems to take over your very being from the moment you are handpicked to live there by the eccentric yet charismatic architect who designed the strange living quarters.
If you like a fast paced psychological thriller with a bit of an edge then this is for you as I was completely pulled into a world of mystery, fear and misunderstanding as the secrets of the house are revealed, this was a 5/5 read and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it if you do pick it up.

So that's it, two books, one I'd seriously push on you all and the other... well let's just sidestep that one shall we.

Let me know if you'd consider picking any of these up.

Bye for now

  3. Wow the Girl Before sounds really interesting! I love mystery books (I'm usually a big fan of Stephen King so I'm sure that would be right up my alley.) It seems like something a bit different than what you would normally expect.

I've never watched Gilmore Girls so the first book doesn't interest me at all, too bad that it wasn't as good as you thought.

  8. Oooh, I love these honest reviews. I'd honestly read them both. The first because I'm nosy, even if it isn't all that interesting, and the second for obvious reasons. Probably in that order. Thanks for these recommendations!

! Should've left it to Rory like on screen ;)

  13. The Girl Before really piqued my interest. I can't wait to get a copy at our local bookstore. At first I thought it was about romance, more specifically, about an ex. But reading the summary further, I am very much curious about the 'house rules' and what became of the two girls.

  16. I’m a huge fan of Lauren Graham, I fell in love with her on the Gilmore Girls and have been following her career ever since. I didn’t realize she wrote a book. I can’t wait to sink my eyes into this masterpiece. She seems hilarious and super down to earth. Thanks for sharing. The Girl also sounds like my kind of book, off to Barnes and Noble I go :)

Right now, I reading Kingdom of Scars by Eoin Macken, Sir Alex Ferguson's Autobiography, and The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker. I highly recommend the last book :)

  19. The second book seems interesting. Thrillers, fantasy and mystery are my favorite genres of books. As for the first one, I am a huge huge fan of Gilmore Girls when I was a kid. I had wanted to become Rory Gilmore back then. I would have bought that book if I had known it was being sold. But thank you for the review. I will probably skip it. But the thing that really caught my attention is the unicorn makeup brushes. Like, where the hell did you get them from??????? I need those in my life!!!!! :)
