I'll Be Reading You

Hello Everyone!

With less than a week to go till Christmas, blog posts have been suffering in these parts, with every penny spoken for before it even arrives, my makeup and fashion stash have remained unreplenished, so I thought I would fill you in what what I've been doing in my spare time,

In the next month or so I'm hoping to have finished all of these books but even my cherished reading time has been cut into by the madness of Christmas!

The Black Spider:
A short, translated novel first published in 1842, the story follows a christening in a remote Swiss village that inspires an old grandad to tell the gathered crowd about the sinister events to take place in their town involving a demonic black spider and the heathen sinners, although it was written so long ago I really enjoyed this tale and itr was pretty grim!

Beware/Dark Mountain
A bind up of two Laymon books, Laymon writes some really gruesome horror books that definitely aren't for the squeamish.
Beware is about a small american town where some grizzly murders begin to take place, no one can find any trace of the culprit or any idea how he or she manages to never be seen till it is too late.
Dark Mountain follows two families on a group hike through some lakes and mountains far from civilization, meanwhile, a sinister pair of devil worshipers hide deep in the wilderness watching their every move.

Bloody Scotland
A non fiction book about the gruesome side of Old Scotland with stories of crimes committed around the country, I like non fiction, I like crime novels so I thought I'd combine the two.

Stranger Child
I read a book by this author for the first time a couple of months back and I was blown away by how good it was so I picked up another to see if I am as impressed as first time round.
Stranger Child is about a woman Called Emma who has a husband that lost his first wife and child in a tragic accident before she met him, fast forward a few years and they too have a child but a stranger walks into their lives that leaves Emma questioning what really happened to David's family all those years ago.

The Ship
A dystopian tale set in a futuristic London where the world is is turmoil, the government as we know it has fallen and the place is in disarray, Lalla's father has a ship big enough to escape with 500 chosen passengers.
Once they're all on board Lalla's unease grows by the day and she starts to question what her father really wants.

The Sisters
One twin sister dies and the other is left behind trying to survive whilst making a new start in Bath.
Bath brings her into a friendship with some unsettling, privileged characters.
Personal letters start to go missing and threatening messages are left behind, the mystery needs solved before it is too late.

Only Ever Yours
Another dystopian novel based in a future time when girls are no longer born naturally but bred in schools that train them in the art of pleasing men, at graduation, the highest rated girls get picked to become 'companions' to breed sons and live with a man till they are no longer useful.
The story follows two females within the school who are nearing their final year.

So this is what I plan on reading very soon, what are you reading at the moment?

Away for a Day (Or Three... But That Didn't Rhyme)

Hello Everyone,

For those of you who weren't in the know, I recently went on my travels Daaahn Saaaaf (that's down south to anyone not doing a crappy fake accent) for a wedding, the weather was certainly a lot warmer than I've been experiencing in Scotland, in fact it was positively tropical!

While I was there I hired a holiday cottage and made a couple of days of it, exploring  the area and switching off (well almost).

One of the days was spent shopping in the big smoke so I took the opportunity to have a couple of outfit shots before I had to make the 30 mile journey to the train station.

Although I was in high spirits I still managed to look thoroughly miserable in these pictures.

But of course there was time to casually stop and tie my shoes.

So that's it, pretty basic and casual, with muddy boots and jeans a size too big (thanks Primark!)

What I Wore:

Shirt - New Look | Jeans - Primark | Boots - New Look *Similar | Head Scarf - Vintage | Watch - Vintage | Bag - TK Maxx | Necklace - European Market

Hope you enjoyed this spontaneous outfit post.

My Secret Confidence Weapon | Clara Olivia

We all know by now that confidence is key in life, it is an effective tool for snagging that hot date, for wowing your peers in a presentation, bagging that job you really really want and - most importantly - knowing (and I mean really knowing) that you are something special, you are worthy and you are more than capable of tackling anything that comes your way because inner confidence brings you that outlook on life.

If you're a terribly shy person, confidence can seem like it is for those other people, the ones with the shiny hair and self-assured smiles but trust me when I say, we can all become one of those sunny people, it just takes a little positive thinking.

For me, positive thinking starts from feeling great and I feel at my best when I am wearing an outfit I love, but people seem to forget that underneath that outfit you're going to have underwear (unless going comando is what makes you feel confident and if that's the case, respect to you girl you keep doing your thing).
Underwear can essentially make or break your outfit, a badly fitting bra and a tight t-shirt can leave you looking a dress size or two bigger than you are and, worse that that, it has you constantly picking and prodding at yourself trying to get yourself back into your bra all day (been there done that) and the same goes for your bottoms... let's leave that there shall we?
Good underwear however, can make you feel great, it fits well, it holds you up where you need it and the material feels lovely against your skin. I find I hold myself differently when I am wearing better quality underwear and yes, I am more confident.

Clara Olivia make some stunning Lingerie for women with B-K cup sizes, I have the Freya Patsy set and it is wonderful, the fabric feels luxurious against my skin and is super comfortable to wear which means I instantly get a confidence boost from putting them on.
The bra supports me well with accurate sizing (I once paid the price of my mortgage for an underwear set and the sizing was so off I had to pretty much hammer myself into that bra!) so there's been no uncomfortable shimmying about or labels digging in here.
The briefs also fit well, no digging in, riding up or awkward public readjusting (you know you've done this, you know everyone saw, you didn't care because the relief was worth the shame).
Clara Olivia also offer swimwear, shapewear, sports bras and even nursing bras that are actually pretty!

There's a few items I have my eye on on their site - their strapless numbers are calling me - and I'm really impressed by what I have tried.

If you decide to place an order online at Clara Olivia use the discount code ROSY15 to get 15% off your order.

Have you got any confidence tricks to share?

Soap and Glory Christmas

Hello Everyone,

It's that time again, Christmas!!! Now I know many of you will be bah humbugging it up, sipping a pumpkin spiced latte with silent disdain radiating from your eyes, but for the rest of us, it's time to get your Slade (circa 1973) mirrored hat on, scream "IT'S CHRISTMAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS" as you pour yourself another mulled wine (no one is judging girl!) and start planning your Christmas gifts.

Heads up - Soap and Glory have you covered.

The Soap and Glory Christmas range is - without exception - amazing.
Being a huge fan of Soap and Glory it is so great shock that I was excited to try out some of these gift sets.

As expected from Soap and Glory, all the products are fantastic and the pink retro designs are a personal favourite of mine and look gorgeous scattered around my bathroom.

So what's in the box I hear you cry? Well let's start with Time To Pink:

Time To Pink features a 'Love at First Blush' Shimmer Powder. I have wanted to get my hands on one of Soap and Glory's powders for a long time and I want disappointed, lovely pigmentation and a healthy glow in one sweep, as the name suggests, it really is Love at First Blush for me.
Time to pink also Features a Sexy Mother Pucker lip gloss in the shade 'Candy Gloss', a nail polish in the shade 'Pink Glaze' and an 'Original Pink' rollerball fragrance (which smells just like the Righteous Butter)
You also get a really cute, sparkly cosmetics case with pretty pink and white lining inside to keep everything in one place.
This is a lovely set and would be a perfect introduction to the Soap and Glory cosmetics range if you're more familiar with the Bath and Body products.

The second set I have is The Zest a Girl Can Get:

If you're a fan of the Soap and Glory 'Sugar Crush' range then stop what you are doing right now and go buy The Zest a Girl Can Get.
Featuring a bottle of the brown sugar and lime scented body wash (a personal long term favourite of mine), a body cream of the same scent, a sweet lime and vanilla body spray and a cuddly toy rubber duck! (for those of you too young to get my generation game reference there, don't dare tell me I'm old).
I can't get enough of these scents which are fresh and sweet at the same time, and let's take a moment to tip our hats to the sparkly lid on this gift set, fan-tastic.

Finally I tried out a Soap and Glory Kissmas Cracker:

The Kissmas Cracker contains a Sexy Mother Pucker lip gloss in the shade 'Rose and Shine'.
I love these plumping lip glosses, they tingle without hurting and plump your lips into a Hollywood pout which we all want thanks to a certain Kylie Jenner running all around the place with her perfect... well everything to be honest but whilst I'll never be that fabulous, voluptous lips are a step in the right direction!

So these are the three sets I have tried but there's loads of others to get your hands on, I'm going to be making a little Christmas wish list/gift guide next week featuring more of Soap and Glory's amazing Christmas releases, but while you wait, if you decide to grab some of these, don't forget that Boots does a '3 for 2' offer on 1000's of their gifts this Christmas so really... it would be rude not to ;)

Have you bought any Soap and Glory sets? I'm going shopping next week for more so if you have any recommendations, do leave them below.

New In - The Full Coverage Foundations

Hello Everyone!

Foundations, so many on the market, so many to try, so many disappointments and relatively few 'wow' moments.
The elation of finding a good foundation is like a compulsion, I constantly hunt for the product that will give me the skin of a 12 year old, collecting favourites along the way (See why I'm All About That Base here).

In my endless quest for perfection I have been trying out two more foundations, one that hits the mark, one that misses it and I can't figure out why... Interested? Good.

Vichy Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation and Laura Mercier Silk Creme Moisturising Photo Edition Foundation

Both a bit of a mouthful, both in similar tubes and both with a good shade range, but while one is the beginning of a love affair, the other... Don't call me I'll call you.

(Disclaimer: Both sets of pictures that will follow have not been retouched at all and in both sets of 'Full Face' I wore the exact same combo of products on top of the two foundations)

Let's start with the Vichy foundation:

Vichy Dermablend foundations offer a full coverage, long wearing (16 hour) foundation that is supposed to wear comfortably whilst covering everything from minor marks and complexion complaints to severe acne and facial scarring all while delivering 24 hour hydration and SPF 35.
I have been trying out one of the newest shades (05 Porcelain) which is the lightest shade in the Dermablend range and this excited me because, come winter time, I'm pretty pale!
The foundation has yellow undertones (Thank you Vichy, thank you!) which means it can be used as a concealer too.

Warning: Bare Faced Pics Coming Now

No Makeup - Sporting Mark Where A Tin Of Beans Fell On My Face And Eye Bags of Hell.
No Touch ups... Full Glory

Excuse The Foundation Lips, Vichy Base Applied

With Full Face On Top Of Vichy

Another Full Face Shot

The Verdict:

I have been in love with this foundation, it lasts all day without breaking up and the colour match is excellent for my skin tone, also, despite being full coverage, it doesn't break me out or overly pronounce my fine lines (yeah we all know I mean wrinkles).
The overall look is a youthful one, I feel pretty confident whilst wearing this and really, isn't that all we want?
I don't normally wear full coverage foundations because they tend to age me but I didn't feel this did at all and I personally feel that the finish will suit both younger and mature skin types.
Escentual have an offer on this foundation at present too - little heads up there.
Swipe right, let's be whatsapp buddies, meet the parents because Vichy, you'll be sticking around for a while.

Star rating 5/5

Now on to the Laura Mercier foundation:

Laura Mercier produces amazing products, I've had an unhealthy obsession with the Illuminator in Indiscretion this year so I was pretty excited to try the Silk Creme Foundation - another full coverage, long wearing (12 hours) foundation but with the added claim of being ideal for video, photography and special events.
I was colour matched to the shade 'Rose Ivory' which is a really good match for me.

My Bare Face Again

With Laura Mercier Base Applied, Already you Can See How It Has Settled Into Any Lines or Pores Making Them Look HUGE
Full Face Applied On Top Of Laura Mercier. Looking Pretty Old Here

Another Full Face

The Verdict:

I wanted so much to love this foundation that I tried everything I could think if to make it work for me, I changed my application around several times, I varied the amount I used, I used several different primers, I went primer free, basically I only just stopped short of taking it out for dinner to butter it up, nothing made this foundation work for me.
The colour match of this was brilliant but it just didn't really help me look young and beautiful, I actually feel it aged me well into my mid thirties by insisting on settling into my wrinkles fine lines and I kid you not, it even added some extra lines to my face for good measure and to really stick the boot in, I found it really drying too.
I think perhaps if you are in your teens (read as: no wrinkles) or if you have a more oily skin type this might be perfect for you so do check it out, but for me... sorry Laura Mercier, I normally love you but this time not so much... Oh you want to meet up on Tuesday? Erm sorry I'm busy, I'll let you know when I'm free but don't call me I'll call you, k?

Star Rating 2.5/5

Have you tried either of these?

What are your favouite high coverage foundations?

Another Country Dog Walking Outfit

Hello Everyone,

As you probably know by now, I live in the countryside and while that often means frustration (for example, having to travel for over an hour to get to shops) for the most part, I love the country life, yeah my outfit pics aren't the typical cool London Blogger Scene but who says fields and hills can't be fashionable too, eh?

So I was walking the pups and the sun was out (for the first time in weeks) and so the blogger in me came out, this isn't just any dog walk, this is a dog walk with my trusty canon *cue poses*

Oh wistfully staring into the distance (to be honest half the time I was watching my dogs try and bite eachother's tails but it worked out well haha)

What I Wore:

Scarf: H&M a couple of seasons ago - Similar at New Look
Belt: New Look a few seasons back - Similar in the New Look Sale
White Top: New Look Sale - Similar
Cardigan: Primark
Skirt: Primark
Boots: New Look - Similar
Watch: ASOS - Similar

Ok so turns out that pretty much my whole outfit ended up being New Look but I've been loving pretty much everything from there lately.

What do you like to wear for dog walks?

Current Skincare Routine

Hello Everyone!

Today I thought I'd post an updated skincare routine as I have been asked a couple of times which products I'm currently using and it does change now and then so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to keep everyone in the loop (totally got images of De Niro in meet the parents with his circle of trust here).

Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser - I have tried so many cleansers but I usually come back to one of three, Liz Earle, Emma Hardie and Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm.
Liz Earle does it well, the smell it great, the product is fantastic and my skin is happy - job done.

On a side note I prefer to buy my Liz Earle cleanser at Feel Unique because they have free UK delivery on orders over £10 and often have offers on which can mean you save a few pounds - just a little heads up there - and no, I'm not being paid to say this.

Liz Earle Skin Tonic - My favourite toner and a bottle this size lasts for all eternity (disclaimer: that is an exaggeration but it does last ages!)

Natural Acne Treatment Cream* - I was sent this cream to try out and I have been loving it, I have never had cystic acne before but I have had some reactions to various products or foods that have left my skin in a bit of a mess before and I like products that are targeted to help problem areas.
This cream has a slight sweet cinnamon smell which I'm not used to in a moisturiser, I don't know why but moisturisers don't usually smell sweet but it is only a faint aroma so if that's not your thing, it is easy to get by.
This leaves my skin really soft and nourished with no greasy residue and has been a welcome new addition.

Magnitone Lucid * - I have been harping on about this cleansing brush since I was sent it to try months ago, I'm still loving it and I still insist it saved my skin from a terrible breakout. Read my first impressions post by clicking the link to get a more in depth discussion but basically I'm still using this brush weekly, alternating between this and a muslin cloth depending on how much makeup I've had on that day.

So there we have it, skin secrets out in the open now, what are your favourite skincare products?

Two Videos, Two Channels, Two Subjects | Beauty and Books

Hi Everyone,

For those of you who aren't aware, I run two YouTube channels, one is a BookTube channel, with book hauls and reviews, and the other is a Fashion and Beauty channel filled with all the things you'd expect to see there (rants and raves, advice, hauls, honest reviews).

Currently my filming set up isn't the best - I'm saving for a Canon with a film function as currently I have a Canon that only takes pictures but when the time arrives to buy myself a nice new camera I will be laughing (like this: mwahahahahahahahahahahahaha) *ahem*

Till that time please feel free to give me a little support and view one or both of my channels, if you subscribe I'll be extra happy and you will be my new best friend *holding hand emojis*

So without further ado:

Beauty and Fashion:

And my Booktube:

Lemme know if you stop by - I could seriously use the love.

Living on a Farm | Comfy Loungewear

Hi Everyone,

Today I must warn you, all of these pictures had been taken at dawn and then after a hard day of animal work - read as poor lighting and no makeup but I wanted to keep this post real to what I was really doing, so disclaimer aside, let us begin.

Living on a farm can be hard work, with tractors sometimes working round the clock, pests to watch for (spotted a rat? battle stations!!!), animals to look after and general hard work (I built a chicken run the other day and 7 hours straight of digging into stones took its toll a bit I tell you!)
All of this means that when it is time to have downtime, I either go shopping (hey all those palettes and pretty shirts wont buy themselves!) or I collapse into a pile with a book and a cuppa (and I have my own Book Reviews channel on YouTube if you didn't know....) and a pair of really really comfy pajamas.

Pajamas for me have to be snug but I also prefer them to be able to be stepped out in because when I wake up in the morning, the first thing I have to do is let the animals out, and that is before a cup of tea and so ain't nobody getting dressed for that!

Note that "Get That Camera Out Of My Face!!!" face, while I remember that I actually asked to be photographed as I collect animal feed.

Luckily for me and my endless pajama quest, Jimmi Jamms offered to send me a Signature Hoodie (Which saves my life in my early morning nip outs because I have bumped into far too many neighbours walking dogs in the fields while I'm in cringy pajamas in the past, least now I'm stylish!)

They also sent me a Heritage Set to try out too, and what better time to try than during my post hard work slump.

Spot the grubby socks - keeping it a little too real here!

So what can I say about Jimmi Jamms? Well to be honest, they fit like a glove, I feel comfy and relaxed and able to crack on with some serious relaxation before time comes to start again but for that hour or so of chilling, I'm in a land of bliss.
They're also extremely soft and breathable which means you're not sweating up a storm while trashing around in bed trying to get that comfy spot (just me?) and so for me, they're a win.

Jimmi Jamms have a lovely range, They also do a Cuddle Blanket, oh yeah, it just got real!

Have you heard of Jimmi Jamms?

How do you relax?

Best of the Last Minute Halloween Fashion

Hi Everyone!

Today is a quick post with some of my top picks for last minute Halloween fashion from ASOS, I'm not really one for a costume but I do love a nod to all things spooky come the 31st October and this year, ASOS seem to have nailed it.

There's still time to pick up something for the weekend if you haven't got round to it yet.

What do you think of these? Have you picked up your Halloween outfit yet?
